Do Testosterone Boosters Work? What 191 Studies Found

Quick answer

Mostly no, as far as the research shows. A review of the 191 studies behind the ten commonest booster ingredients found only 19% were done in people, and 46% of the 37 human studies saw no effect. HoneyPower is not a proven booster either. No trial of the finished capsule exists.

Key facts
  • The review (PMID 30770069) counted 191 studies behind the ten commonest ingredients in best-selling boosters.
  • Only 19% of those studies involved people at all. Of the 37 human studies, 46% found no effect on testosterone.
  • When young men were given tribulus directly, at 10 and 20 mg per kg a day, their androgen production did not change.
  • HoneyPower's front label says MALE ENHANCEMENT. The seller lists "healthy testosterone as printed" among its supports, which is the seller's wording.
  • The finished HoneyPower capsule has never been trialled, and no amount is printed for any of its six ingredients.
  • Low testosterone is a lab diagnosis. A doctor, not a bottle, can tell you if yours is low.

What are testosterone boosters?

A testosterone booster is a shop label, not a medical term. It usually means a capsule or powder made of plants, vitamins or minerals that is sold with the idea that it can lift your own hormone level. It is not a hormone itself. It is sold as a dietary supplement, which is not approved by the FDA before sale the way a medicine is.

This changes how the front of the bottle should be read. Supplement labels use support words such as "supports" and "helps support". Those words are softer than "raises" or "treats", and the softness is on purpose. The wording sets the ceiling, and it is not a result.

HoneyPower sits near this world but does not use the word on its front label. The bottle prints its name, MALE ENHANCEMENT, Dietary Supplement and 60 Capsules. The seller's page lists "healthy testosterone as printed" among the things it supports. This site treats that as the seller's wording, not as a result.

Do testosterone boosters really work? What the big review found

A group of researchers took a hard look at popular online boosters. They listed the ingredients and then went looking for the studies behind the ten most common ones. They found 191 studies in all.

Then they sorted them. Only about one in five, 19%, involved people. The rest did not involve people. Of the 37 studies that did involve men, 46% found no change in testosterone. The paper is listed on this site as PubMed record 30770069.

Read it plainly. A booster can look well studied because an ingredient has a long paper trail. The trail may be in test tubes. It may be in rats. It may be in men, with no result. The label never tells you which.

How would a booster ingredient work, and was it tested?

On paper, the idea is simple. An ingredient nudges the body to make more testosterone. A fair test gives the ingredient to men and then measures the hormone. Tribulus is the best known name in this field, and it is one of the six on the HoneyPower graphic.

That test was done. In that trial, healthy young men were given tribulus at 10 and 20 mg for each kg of body weight daily, split into three doses. For a man of 70 kg that is roughly 700 to 1,400 mg. Their androgen production was measured. It did not change (PMID 15994038).

A 2025 systematic review of tribulus and testosterone is also on the source list of this site. A 2026 meta-analysis of tribulus for erectile function is there too. Neither changes the plain point: a folk reputation is not a measurement.

Maca gives a second example of how careful you have to be. One trial separated desire from testosterone on purpose. Desire rose. Serum testosterone did not move. So an ingredient can seem to help a man feel something without touching the hormone at all.

What about honey, ginseng and the other names on the label?

Honey leads the HoneyPower graphic. The only record this desk found that links honey to testosterone is a study in gerbils. It is cited as an animal study, and it is not a result for men.

Of the six names, Panax ginseng has the largest body of human research. Its human trials scored tiredness and erections. The 2021 Cochrane review pooled 9 studies in 587 men for erections.

For horny goat weed, no study of erections in men has been run. The only human trial of its isolated active, icariin, used 300 mg a day in people with a mood disorder and measured mood. Black pepper extract is there to help absorption. Nobody has measured it alongside the other five.

So when someone asks "how do testosterone boosters work", the honest answer for this label is short. The published work does not show that these six plants, at the amounts a capsule could hold, lift testosterone.

How do you know if your testosterone is low?

You cannot tell from a mood or from how you feel at four in the afternoon. The Endocrine Society guideline, which this site lists as a source, asks for blood tests taken in the morning and repeated on separate days. A doctor reads them with your symptoms and your medicine list.

This is why it is better to go first, then decide about any supplement. Tiredness, low drive and changes in erections can come from sleep debt, alcohol, weight, blood pressure medicine or a health problem that needs its own care. A capsule does not reach any of those causes.

If you want to try HoneyPower after that, the sensible way is a fair test. Before you open the bottle, jot down three scores. Keep other big changes still. Judge at about eight weeks. The trials behind these plants ran 8 to 12 weeks, and the 180-day refund window is longer than any of them.

Frequently asked questions

Do testosterone boosters work?

The evidence is thin. In a review of 191 studies behind the ten commonest ingredients, only 19% were in people, and 46% of the 37 human studies found no change in testosterone. A product can still be pleasant to take, but a proven rise is not shown.

Is HoneyPower a testosterone booster?

Its front label says MALE ENHANCEMENT, not testosterone booster. The seller lists healthy testosterone among its supports, which is the seller's wording. No trial of the finished capsule has been published, so this site does not describe it as a booster.

How long do testosterone booster results take?

No result time is published for HoneyPower. Buyers in the distributor's summary most often describe 3 to 6 weeks. The trials behind its plants ran 8 to 12 weeks. Nothing here acts in a day.

Can a supplement tell me if my testosterone is low?

No. Low testosterone is found by blood tests taken in the morning and repeated on separate days, then read by a doctor. A supplement cannot diagnose it, and taking one first can hide the question.

Is there a safe testosterone booster?

No supplement can be called proven safe for everyone. HoneyPower has two named interactions: ginseng with warfarin, and black pepper extract with medicines cleared by CYP3A4. Tell your doctor what you take before starting.

What does HoneyPower cost, and can I return it?

A bottle is $69 on its own, $59 each in a three-bottle pack ($177) and $49 each in a six-bottle pack ($294). The seller's money-back window lasts 180 days and starts on the day you buy. Return postage is the buyer's cost.

Our view

Our view is plain. The word booster promises more than the research delivers, and that is true across the category, not only for this bottle. If your goal is a higher testosterone level, a supplement is the wrong first step. A blood test and a doctor come first.

If your goal is a daily capsule to try for energy and general vitality, HoneyPower is a low-risk way to run an experiment, as long as you are an adult man, you have no reason to skip it, and you have told your doctor about your medicines. Go in with calm expectations. The label gives no amounts, and no trial of the capsule exists.

What we can say in its favour is the paperwork around the purchase. The price is stated, there is no subscription, and the 180-day window is longer than any study of these six plants.
